英语介词虽是小词，数量也不多，但它灵活多变，随处可见，功能强大而且难于掌握。

在现代英语中，介词的地位非常重要。我们切不可小看这个小角色，不可忽视它的作用。

什么是介词？

介词是一种虚词，是一种用来表示词与词，或者词与句之间的关系的词。

介词在句中不能单独作句子成分。它必须和随后的补足成分一起构成介词短语，才能用于句中。

介词的种类

按结构，英语介词可分为3类：

(1）简单介词

如

at , in，off , on , by , to ,of， with ，about , above , across , after , against , along , among , around , before , behind , below , between , down , except , for , from , near , over , since 等。

(2）合成介词

如

into , inside , within , outside , upon , without throughout 等。

(3）短语介词

如

according to , because of ,

in addition to , in front of ,

in spite of ，at the end of ,

away from , from behind ,

in the middle of , instead of , near to , next to , out of ,

to the east of ,up to ，

together with 等

介词短语的形式

英语介词不可单独使用，只能与不同的词类构成介词短语用在句子中担当一个成分。

常用的介词短语有以下几种：

（1）介词十名词

( go ) by bus 乘公共汽车（去）

( play ) in the park 在公园里（玩）

( come ) on Sunday 星期天（来）

（ 2）介词十代词

( talk ) to oneself 对自己（说），自言自语

( a letter) for you 给你的（信）

( not ...) at all 一点也（不）

(3)介词＋数词

( cut sth .) in two （把…切）成两半

（4）介词＋动名词

( a way ) of doing that 做那件事的（方式）

( be good ) at drawing pictures （善于）画画

（5）介词＋ wh 短语

( talk ) about what to do next （谈论）下一步该做什么

（6）介词＋从句
